Accessing the Quick Menu

Sometimes you might need to change settings during the game. This can be done using the quick menu.

Instructions:

Press F8 or B in game to open the quick menu and access useful server and game options.

Switching Off Chat Sounds

If chat notifications are distracting you, you can disable chat sounds while continuing to receive messages.

Instructions: Press Shift + Esc to open the console.

Enter Command:

You may also want to add this command to your autoexec.cfg to make it permanent.

Setting Up Your User Profile

Your user profile lets other players identify you and can display a custom avatar available from Jeff's servers.

Instructions:

Settings → Profiles → Choose a profile → Apply

After this you can return to the game.

Useful Console Commands

Xonotic has a large number of console commands and settings that can be useful for changing how the game looks and behaves.

If you are new to the console, there are a few useful features that make finding and using commands much easier.

Console tips:

Press TAB to use auto-completion and browse available commands.

Press UP and DOWN to browse through previously entered commands.

Instructions: Press Shift + Esc to open the console.

Enter Command:

command to search for settings and commands by name or description.

If you would rather not use the console, many of these settings are also available through the Advanced Settings dialog under Settings → Misc.

Player Models

Force every other player's model to use your selected player model. This can make it easier to keep track of players or simply give everyone the same look.

Instructions: Press Shift + Esc to open the console.

Enter Command:

Turns forced player models on.

Turns forced player models off.

Texture Size

Reducing the maximum allowed texture size can reduce video memory usage and help your game run smoother.

Instructions: Press Shift + Esc to open the console.

Enter Command:

Remember to halve or double the number when experimenting with these changes will be automatically saved in your Xonotic config file and applied the next time you join.

FPS Limit

You can use this setting to put a cap on the number of frames per second your game will render.

Depending on your system hardware, you might want to try to force the game to use a different fps setting. A higher maxfps might increase your chances of making a kill, depending on your system resources, but overdoing it might make it worse by trying to force more fps than your system can produce.

Instructions: Press Shift + Esc to open the console.

Enter Command:

Set the value to your desired FPS limit. Set it to cl_maxfps 0 for unlimited FPS.

Force Player Colour

Force enemy players to use your chosen player colour. This also affects team game modes, meaning your chosen player colour can be used instead of the normal team colour.

Instructions: Press Shift + Esc to open the console.

Enter Command:

Turns forced player colours on

Turns forced player colours off

For example, if you choose green as your player colour, enemies can also appear green instead of using their normal team colour.

Gun Alignment

Change where your weapon appears on screen. Some options depend on whether g_shootfromclient allows the selected alignment.

Instructions: Press Shift + Esc to open the console.

Enter Command:

Show FPS

Display your current frames per second on screen.

Instructions: Press Shift + Esc to open the console.

Enter Command:

Shows your current FPS.

Hides the FPS display.

Mute a Player

Problems with Player Chat ?

If you just find someone annoying and don't want to see their chat messages, you can use ignore to mute them. This works only on your client, and everyone else can still see the messages you have ignored.

Instructions: Press Shift + Esc to open the console.

Enter Command:

Replace ID with the player's ID number. The one in the chat to the right of their name. These changes will be automatically saved in your Xonotic config file and applied the next time you join.

If someone says things that are racist, offensive, or abusive, either in chat, or in a direct message, take a screenshot and contact an admin.

F12 will save a screenshot to your Xonotic folder.

Finding Settings Easily

The search command can help you find settings by searching through available commands and descriptions.

Instructions: Press Shift + Esc to open the console.

Enter Command:

Use a search term to find related settings and commands.

Alternatively, open Settings → Misc → Advanced Settings and use the filter box to search for the setting you need.
